Ingredients

5-Ingredient Parippu

  • 1 cup Red lentils
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 Garlic cloves peeled
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • Water as need

Additional Ingredients (Optional)

  • 1/4 medium-size Onion diced
  • 1 Green chili sliced
  • 1/4 cup Coconut milk
  • 1/2 tbsp Cilantro chopped

Tempering Ingredients (Optional)

  • 1 tbsp Oil of your choice
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 4-5 Curry leaves
  • 2 Dry red chilies
  • Pinch Asafetida
  • Pinch Curry powder

Instructions

Purippu Curry

  1. Rinse and soak the red lentils for about 30 minutes.

  2. In a large pot, combine lentils, chopped onions, green chilies, turmeric powder, garlic cloves and salt.

  3. Add water to cover the lentils are bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until lentils are softened.

  4. Add coconut milk and chopped cilantro, simmer for a few minutes, and adjust salt to taste.

For Tempering

  1. Use a pan to heat oil and add mustard seeds. When it splutters, curry leaves and dry red chilies, mix until the colour changes to shade darker. Next, add
