How It All Comes Together

Step 1 — Create the Dough

  • All‑purpose flour
  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • Instant yeast
  • Water
  • Butter

To make the dough, combine all dry ingredients listed above in a bowl. Add the wet ingredients gradually and knead until smooth (or use a stand mixer for hand‑free kneading).

  • If the dough is sticky → add a touch more flour.
  • If it’s too dry → add a splash of water.

Cover the bowl with a towel loosely or cling wrap the bowl to let it rise for 20–30 minutes, or until doubled in size.

Step 2 — Shape the Buns

  • Hotdogs (my go‑to)
  • Mini wieners
  • Sausages
  • Tofu sticks
  • Cheese sticks
  • Veggie sticks

Choose your preferred filling from above to start prepping.. My go-to is hotdogs. Cut the hotdogs into bite‑size pieces. Mini wieners works great too.

Divide the dough into smaller quantity to toll them flat. Use a dough roller to flatten then use a knife to cut the flatten dough into thick stripes. Take each stripe of dough and wrap it closely around each piece of hotdog. Place them neatly in a baking tray.

Fun tip: Cut the exposed end of the hotdog into four slits — when baked, they curl like little legs!

Step 3 — Bake to Perfection

  • To bake, preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • Brush each hotdog wrapped bun with a beaten egg or milk.
  • Add any optional topping (shredded cheese or sesame seeds).
  • Bake for 20–30 minutes, until the top has a golden finish.
  • Let them cool slightly before serving with ketchup, mustard, or hot sauce.

Leftovers

  • Refrigerator: Keeps fresh for 1-3 days in the fridge. Reheat in the oven, microwave, or air-fryer when ready to enjoy.
  • Freezer: Freeze baked buns for up to 1 month. Thaw and warm in the microwave before serving. You can also freeze unbaked buns and bake them fresh when needed.
