Cook Once, Eat 3 Ways: My Sri Lankan‑Inspired Meal Prep System

Some weeks feel like a marathon in the kitchen.

You want to eat well, save money, and avoid takeout… but the idea of cooking every single day?

Not happening.

Here’s a system that saved me and honestly, it’s inspired by how Sri Lankan kitchens naturally work: one base, a few curries, mix and match, never boring.

And if you want to plan your meals this way every week, Try these digital printables, and also physical books on Amazon if you’re a pen‑to‑paper kind of person. More on that in a bit.

Why This System Works

This isn’t “meal prep” in the boring sense. It’s not reheating the same sad container three days in a row. It’s not chicken + broccoli on repeat.

This is a smart rotation system that gives you:

✔ Zero stress – One cooking session → three meals done

✔ Balance – Carbs + fiber + protein = steady energy and no mid-day crash

✔ Flavor – Sri Lankan cooking is naturally layered, colorful, and comforting — even when you batch cook

✔ Variety – Different veggies, proteins, fresh meals every day

🌿 Just a friendly reminder: I’m a passionate foodie, not a certified nutrition or health professional. Everything shared here — recipes, tips, and food inspiration — is meant for enjoyment and creativity in your kitchen. For dietary guidance or health concerns, always consult a qualified professional.

why would cooking once and planning 3 ways be stressfree

How It Works: Step‑By‑Step

Step 1 — Choose a base to cook

Step 2 — Pick 3 veggies to make

Step 3 — Choose 1 – 3 Proteins to cook

Step 4 — Assemble Your Meals

Each container gets a base, a protein, and two veggies. Remember to use an air-tight container to store.

Start with the two veggies and the protein at the bottom layer, side by side or on each corner of the container. Add the base on top then cover with the lid and refridgerate for upto 3 days.

Step 5 — Flip, Heat, Eat

When it’s time to eat:

  • flip the container onto a plate
  • the base falls first
  • veggies + protein fall beautifully on top
  • microwave and enjoy

It looks and feels like a freshly cooked meal — not meal prep. You can swap ingredients weekly, but the structure stays the same.

Want to make this your weekly routine?

If this system already feels like a breath of fresh air, imagine having your whole week mapped out with this same ease.
