Samaposha is a Sri Lankan breakfast cereal that we often have with milk before going to school. This pre-cooked cereal comes as powdered and it’s made of corn, soya, green grams and rice. As you can see it’s very healthy, and on top of all tastes so great. An amazing supplement to have in the morning to keep us energetic through the day.
As a kid, I mostly enjoyed having this cereal as a treat/snack instead. As I grew I loved it even more and would make enough to have in the evenings around tea time.
Whether you want this made for your kids, to treat yourself, or to even serve at a Sunday get together party. This delicious treat will make anyone want to go for a second or even third. It’s that delicious and on top of all it’s loaded with healthy nutrition.
How It’s Made
Where Can I Buy Samaposha?
Samaposha comes in small packs. They can be found just about anywhere in Sri Lanka but it’s not so popular and unable to find anywhere else other than this island. However, here in Canada, I was able to find at the local Asian stores especially Tamil stores would definitely have them on their shelves.

Bite-Size Samaposha Balls – Small in size but big on flavours
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Samaposha
- 1/2 cup Coconut scraped or desiccated coconuts
- 3 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Jaggery (in small pieces or scrapped) optional
- pinch Salt
- 1 tsp Water or as needed need more if using desiccated coconuts
Instructions
-
Add scrapped coconuts, sugar, jaggery (optional), and a pinch salt to the samaposha.
-
Combine a tsp of water and give it a good mix first. Use your dominant hand to take a small portion, squeeze if needed to, make round shape balls the size of a golf-ball.
-
If it is difficult to form a ball – not holding or if it continues to crumble off when shaping, add a few extra drops of water to help hold the shape. Too much water is not good. Use as little water as you can and continue to form golf-ball size shape until the rest are all made into small round shaped balls as well.
-
Serve at any time of the day.
